A Feast with Ice Crean
The summer came right after the winter passed. Spring did not show herself except that damn pollen! I almost died with it! When the summer comes, people always have some special things to do again: turning on air condition, go swimming and certainly, eating ice-cream! These a a famous ice-cream company called Ben and Jerry’s. “With a $5 correspondence course in ice cream-making from Penn State and a $12,000 investment ($4,000 of it borrowed), Ben and Jerry open their first ice cream scoop shop in a renovated gas station in Burlington, Vermont.”(benjerry.com) Ben and Jerry is a company with 45 years of history. In the next few days, Cheshire Academy students are going to have a chance to learn more about this company. Its shop have opened all around America. Its Chairman of the Independent Board of Directors, Jeff Furman ‘61, will come to Cheshire Academy to join the 221st Commencement Address.(cheshireacademy.org) It is surprised to see a number mark after see the name of Jeff Furman. That means he graduated from Cheshire Academy. To a successful business man who graduated from Cheshire Academy, the leader of school showed a lot of interest for inviting him to give a speech. “‘Jeff’s dedication to corporate social responsibility is part of why I asked him to speak at commencement,’ said John D. Nozell, Cheshire Academy’s head of school. ‘I have always valued the notion that doing well and doing good are not mutually exclusive.’”(myrecordjournal.com) Mr. Nozell are looking forward to a speech that given by Jeff Furman, so as the students. Jeff Furman’s thinking and business process should be studied by those students who want to learn how to do business. It is a free chance to learn about how the community look like. Jeff Furman is the first person who plan for Ben & Jerry, and successfully get a bank loan. He advised Ben and Jerry to work with a New York pizza shop as their first step. He was the only innovator of the company and gave out a lot of business ideas, such as Partner shop and scoop shops. He did not work for benefits but the development of the company.(benandjerrysfoundation.org) He is an creative person who has his own special ideas about business. His innovative thinking ways pushed the company Ben and Jerry walked in the right way of becoming successful. We can say that if Ben and Jerry do not have Jeff as their best friends on business, the company will never become successful as now. It is hard to be at the top place in the world, but Jeff Furman’s idea of business helped the company a lot. It is always good to have ice-cream in the summer time, and I hope Jeff Furman can bring us this cool feeling in the summer, from both physically and mentally.
